Chairs occupy a high place in the design world. We are attracted to them, and they reflect our aesthetics and personalities. At SILLA, chairs made for a place, person, or activity, have been a preoccupation from the outset. They go from sketches—quick riffs on proportion, available materials, etc.—to iterations of thought and reaction to the object in its progress toward a realized design.

Site-specific objects that we have made over the years and one-offs for clients are released in small-run limited editions, available to the public while they last. Design originates from place. The quality of light, existing structures, the feel of a place, the people who use it—these elements overlap in the development of form. Form, in turn, expresses a sense of belonging to the place it occupies. SILLA’s objects take on a life of their own through the history of their materials and the perfection of their details.
